Specialist Larry Curtis Applegate was one of 10 fallen soldiers the General Assembly took the time to remember Wednesday in Columbia.
The fallen soldiers ceremony honors the memory of men and women from South Carolina who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Applegate earned a purple heart while serving in Iraq.
He took his own life when he got home.
Cynthia Patton, Applegate's mother, says our soldiers deserve more attention. "The armed forces needs to realize what our soldiers are going through over there. More needs to be done. People need to realize and understand what our boys are coming home from," she said at the ceremony.
Each family was presented with the Order of the Palmetto Patriot and a state flag in remembrance of their loved one.
