Friday, the ship LIAMARE will take the initial export shipment of wood briquettes, a renewable energy source, from the Port of Georgetown and head to Scandinavia.
Carolina-Pacific, the South Carolina-based manufacturer of wood briquettes used in energy production, welcomes its first ship call this week at the Port of Georgetown.
The renewable energy company signed a 20-year contract with the South Carolina State Ports Authority to ship through Georgetown last summer and to establish a manufacturing operation on site.
The first vessel, the 351-foot-long LIAMARE, is expected to begin work Friday. Carolina-Pacific will export 5,000 tons of product to Scandinavia on the first ship.
