Repair crews are putting in longer hours at the Grand Strand Toyota dealership, installing new parts on cars with defective gas pedals.
Managers at Sparks Toyota are asking customers affected by the recall to contact the dealer by phone or e-mail, to set up a time when they can get their cars fixed.
The new part is about the size of a postage stamp and managers say it doesn't take very long to install it. "On average, we've been doing them in about 35 to 45 minutes. That's the complete process. That's write-up, bringing it in, putting the reinforcement bar in, hooking the computer up, bringing it out and getting the customer on their way," said Brian Malcolm, Parts Director, Sparks Toyota.
Malcolm says about 2 to 3 thousand cars will be fixed at the Sparks dealership.
The repair shop will stay open until 10:00 each night, with longer hours on Saturday and Sunday, to get the job done.
