As South Carolina lawmakers prepare to slash hundreds of millions of dollars from state services and departments, Governor Mark Sanford warns that no state entity is immune from cuts.
During his appearance on Carolina This Week with Tim McGinnis Sunday morning on NewsChannel 15, Governor Sanford described the cuts as painful but necessary.
Sanford said, "education, health care less so than other parts of government - but they will still be impacted because education is about half the budget in South Carolina. Health care is another third and that's a small piece you have there at the remainder and unless you want to absolutely decimate that other - which ranges everything from wild life and enforcement of DNR to corrections, which is essential - you have to cut everything."
The governor went on to say that, while the state faces tough times right now, South Carolina's overall picture looks positive as more out-of-state residents and businesses are being drawn to the state.
