State Representative Thad Viers announced today he would seek reelection to his seat representing Horry County, ending speculation he may run for the 1st Congressional District seat being vacated by Henry Brown.

Brown recently announced his retirement.

Here's the letter sent Wednesday morning by Viers:

"Open Letter to Friends and Supporters: As many of you are aware, I have been approached about running for the United States Congress in 2010. I have been humbled by the outpouring of support and encouragement which I received from across South Carolina, especially since there are several capable and qualified candidates already seeking the Republican nomination. After much prayer and deliberation, I plan to seek reelection to the South Carolina House of Representatives. As a Republican Majority Whip, I continue to have the opportunity to shape the policy and strategy that will strengthen Conservativism in the South Carolina legislature in 2010. My duty is here serving my constituents of Horry County. I am blessed to represent Horry County and love South Carolina and America. I will work for and support a candidate in this race for Congress whom firmly supports the conservative movement and will work for the fundamental needs of all constituents. Through loyalty to the conservative ideals I hold dear, I believe a conservative philosophy is the best hope to increase freedom, restore fiscal responsibility, limit the growth of government, and stop the government only solutions to all of our problems. There is not a problem in government that cannot be solved by a taxpayer solution. That type of thinking is the problem and is prevalent at all levels of government. As the most conservative member of the Horry County Legislative Delegation I will continue to fight against runaway government spending and for the taxpayer! Thank you for your prayers, support, and encouragement. God Bless South Carolina and God Bless America! Viva Liberty!"
