Local MLK birthday celebrations

The birth of Dr Martin Luther King Junior will be celebrated across the country Monday and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to join in the many celebrations going on in the Pee Dee and on the Grand Strand.

In Myrtle Beach a parade is set for 11:30am starting at Chapin Park and ending at the Historic Myrtle Beach Colored School Museum on Dunbar Street.

In Florence, the 18th annual MLK march through downtown Florence begins at 11am. The rally starts at the Majority Baptist Church on North Coit Street. 

Folks will march to the New Ebenezer Baptist Church where the MLK program will begin at 12pm.

Also, the Florence branch of the NAACP will sponsor it's annual MLK commemorative celebration at 7pm at the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church on Old Marion Highway in Florence. There will be several speakers at that event.

Festivities get started early in Dillon on Monday for their MLK rally and march. The march begins at 9am at the Bi-Lo grocery store in downtown Dillon. 

Folks will then walk to J.V. Martin Jr High School where the ceremony will begin at 10am.

Finally, in Darlington County, the 12th annual MLK celebration and fund raiser begins at 6pm at the Center Theater on 5th Street in Hartsville.

There will be speakers and musical performances.
