SC State Troopers arrested the man in charge of Myrtle Beach's parks division and charged him with DUI.
Richard Norman Kirby, 55, faces one count of driving under the influence after troopers stopped him early Saturday morning.
Highway Patrol arrested Kirby on US Highway 17 near Surfside Beach at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, according to Cpl. Paul Brouthers.
A magistrate set a $1,000 bail for Kirby on Saturday, but as of 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Kirby remained incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to the jail's web site.
When asked for comment, Myrtle Beach Spokesman Mark Kruea said the city doesn't typically comment on personnel matters.
According to the city's web site, the Parks Division falls under the Cultural and Leisure Services Department.
The parks division landscapes the city's parks, maintains shrubbery in highway medians and provides litter control services, according to a city web site.
Kirby's arrest comes just a few days after the public works director for Surfside Beach was arrested for driving a town-issued vehicle on the beach with an open container of alcohol.
