Budget cuts announced Tuesday by the State Budget and Control Board will take a toll on Horry County Schools.
School officials say a 5% cut in state funding would amount to about a $5 million hit to the Horry County Schools budget.
The school board dipped into reserves that helped tide the district over through last year's budget cuts, and officials say they should be able to use that fund balance again.
But staff furloughs may still be necessary.
