Coastal Carolina University students studying resort tourism planning, gave proposals for a resort in the Fantasy Harbor area.
Five groups of students presented their ideas for the hypothetical site. They focused on designing a resort that would attract more tourists during the off-season. The students addressed factors such as market demand, financial feasibility and quality of life issues.
The professor of the resort tourism class says the students have been working on the project since August 2008. "This is a great opportunity for them to show what they an do, what their ideas are made of, so to speak, to the professional community," said Taylor Demonte, PH.D., CCU Professor, Resort Tourism.
The students came up with design ideas including a surf park, an indoor ski facility, an arena and a variety of shops, restaurants and lodging facilities.
Today's presentation was open to the business community, and the only chance for students to pitch their ideas.
