The City of Darlington plans to honor a major leaguer who's from there. Orlando Hudson is credited with helping the LA Dodgers go all the way to the National League pennant playoffs this season.

Hudson grew up in Darlington. He lives there in the off season and sponsors several events to help steer teenagers in the right direction.

He also does work with autistic children.

City council wants to put up a sign in Hudson's honor that says, "Welcome to Darlington, Home of Orlando Hudson.

City councilwoman Gloria Hines said, "We should honor Orlando. He's a great person. I'm not saying that because he's a family member, but he's just sweet. He has not lost his touch. He still remains the same."

City council has approval from the state Department of Transportation to put up the sign. Members are checking to see how much it will cost.
