SC man sues over right to pass out pamphlets

(AP) -- A South Carolina man has sued a city he says used an ordinance to stop him from passing out pamphlets and talking about religion in a public place.

The Greenville News reported Monday that Joshua Glidewell has asked a federal judge for an injunction, stopping the city of Greenville from using its law against "molesting or disturbing persons."

Glidewell was acquitted last October of the charge after he was arrested as he and another man handed out religious pamphlets in 2007.

The city had said the Greenville man was not just arrested for handing out pamphlets, but for yelling and harassing people who passed by. Glidewell's attorney, Samuel Harms, says the city's law is too broad and is unconstitutional.
