(AP) -- HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are still trying to figure out how a man found in a Hilton Head Island lagoon died.

Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen told The Island Packet of Hilton Head that the man was likely in the lagoon for a week or two before someone walking through a lot

found him Wednesday.

Allen says there were no signs of trauma, and more tests will be needed to determine how the man died.

Deputies say they think they know the man's identity, but more work is needed to confirm who the man is.

The area around the lagoon is known as a gathering spot for homeless people and day laborers.
