A Dillon student's efforts to improve the learning environment of her school have inspired a Chicago businessman to help out.
Darryl Rosser owns a school furniture company and this weekend, he gave JV Martin Junior High a free makeover.
Rosser says he was inspired by Ty'sheoma Bethea's passionate letter to President Barack Obama.
In February, the eighth grader wrote the letter telling Obama about the poor conditions at her school.
He invited her to the White House and made reference to JV Martin, during his first address to Congress.
Rosser's company, Sagus International donated 2,000 brand new desks and chairs to JV Martin.
He also remodeled the cafeteria with new tables and a fresh coat of paint.
Inspirational quotes from people like President Obama and BB King grace the walls.
Monday morning at a special assembly Ty'sheoma Bethea personally thanked Rosser.
"It was great for us to have new things in our school. It makes me feel like our school is appreciative, and that people are finally realizing what kind of school we are in and what kind of conditions our school is in," said Bethea.
The new state of the art chairs and desks replace ones that have been at JV Martin for nearly 50 years.
If school officials had to pay for the new furniture, it would cost them more than $250,000.
The old chairs at the school will be recycled by Sagus International.
State education superintendent Jim Rex, Congressman John Spratt and a representative from Jim Clyburn's office came out to see the makeover.
