Monday, dozens of families in the Pee Dee lit yellow candles in their homes in recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Tuesday, April 21st.
A single candle burned Monday at the Beth Israel Congregation in Florence as well.
It symbolizes the need to raise awareness of the Holocaust and to remember the six million Jews who were lost during that period.
"All Jews were victims, not only Jews were victims. So, it's like a lesson not just for our community but for every people that cares about life," said Rabbi Jeffery Ronald, Beth Israel Congregation.
Outside the Beth Israel Congregation is a monument in memory of the Holocaust victims.
Tuesday night at 7:00, the congregation will hold a special memorial service.
