Daveline Holmes,37, of Georgetown County is charged with Reckless Homicide Resulting In Death and Hit and Run involving Death in the wreck that killed Sonya Burgess, 39.
Burgess died in a crash in the Cades community of Williamsburg County Monday evening.
Troopers say Holmes was going the wrong way on Highway 52 near Kingstree, Monday night.
They say Burgess tried to avoid hitting Holmes' car head on and flipped her SUV.
Officers say Holmes kept going.
Burgess was thrown from her SUV and was then hit and killed by another car that also left the scene, troopers say.
Troopers have tracked down that driver and processed her car. She hasn't been charged at this point.
Highway Patrol says their investigation assures them Holmes was involved in the crash.
They question if she would have stopped to help Burgess, could it have saved her life.
"We are sure that this is the vehicle that caused and contributed to the collision that killed Mrs. Burgess. That's why we have moved forward with the charges that we have today," said Lance Cpl Sonny Collins with Highway Patrol.
Burgess' family was in court for Holmes' bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
Her husband told the judge he was okay with a reasonable bond for Holmes.
"We're not malice by any means. If she has a family, I'm sure she does, we would not want to keep a mother from their family," said Marcus Burgess.
Holmes' attorney says his client is sorry for what happened.
At the time of the wreck, Holmes was heading to Timmonsville to watch her child play basketball.
The attorney says Holmes didn't realize what happened, and when she learned what happened, she called authorities.
"She didn't know that it happened at the time. She was trying to reconcile once she found out what had occurred," said Johnny Morant , Holmes' Attorney.
Her bond is set at $115,000.
She hasn't posted bond and remains in the Williamsburg County Detention Center.
Tuesday, Highway Patrol released a picture of Holmes taken by a surveillance camera at the gas station. She turned herself in a short time later.
Burgess was the girls' basketball coach at Kingstree High School, as well as the athletic director and a teacher.
