UPDATE

Two people were shot outside the Chesterfield County Courthouse on Main Street in Chesterfield Wednesday afternoon, according to Chief JD Dixon, with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office.

The 21-year-old woman,Olivia Weaver, and her stepfather, Johnnie Nolan, were getting into their car parked outside of the courthouse, Chesterfield Police Chief Eric Hewett said.

Weaver was shot in the face and in the stomach and was taken to a Florence hospital. She is in stable condition.

Weaver's mother, Jennifer Smith, says Weaver was ambushed after attending a child support hearing.

Smith said the father of her daughter's child, suspect Curtis Brent Gorny, 56, of Cheraw wasn't at Wednesday's hearing where he was ordered to start paying child support. Instead, he waited outside and fired on Weaver and Nolan.

Nolan was shot in the arm and was treated and released at a hospital in Chesterfield County.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker added that the child was not with her mother.

"I have been here for two years almost and never had anything happen like this. I've been in law enforcement since mid 1990's and I've never seen anything of this magnitude happen in the Town of Chesterfield," Hewett added

Gorny led deputies on a 12-mile chase through several communities before being arrested near Pageland.

Deputies with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office put out spike sticks causing the tires on Gorny's car to go flat, Dixon said.

Dixon added that Gorny kept driving and eventually was arrested.

Gorny has been charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, according to the State Law Enforecement Division

Gorny appreared in court on Thursday. He waived his right to a bond hearing and will be pointed a public defender.

NewsChannel 15 has learned that Weaver called police in September after she said Gorny pushed her to the ground because she wouldn't leave a home with him.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
