A portion of Highway 31 between Highway 544 and Highway 501 was shut down due to a tanker fire that began late Thursday night.

Traffic was back to normal just before 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The driver of the truck noticed sparks around 10:45 and pulled over just before the fire started.

According to the driver, the truck was carrying diesel fuel but none leaked onto the roadway.

The fire is out and Horry County Fire Rescue is on scene.

HCFR is advising people to use Forestbrook Drive Friday morning in case crews are still removing materials from the truck.
