(AP) -- Hundreds of firefighters have again gathered in Myrtle Beach for an international firefighting competition.

The Scott Safety World Challenge gets under way Monday at Broadway at the Beach and continues through Saturday.

About 700 firefighters are competing this year, the third straight year the event has been held at the beach. It's a boost to the local economy because the firefighters bring with them about 2,000 relatives and supporters.

Competitions range from climbing a five-story tower to hoisting and dragging fire hoses and carrying life-size dummies to simulate rescuing fire victims. The firefighters wear their usual gear including air packs weighing 50 pounds.
