Man camps out to fight hunger 10 years in a row

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) - Radio personality Scott Mann is living in a camper at Broadway at the Beach to help fight hunger along the Grand Strand.

The program is partnered with 104.1 and it's call Marathon for Meals.

This is the tenth year in a row Mann has camped out for meals.

"A decade of locals feeding locals and that's what we do here," said Mann.

He's living in a camper at Broadway at the Beach for a week.

While there, Mann is taking food and hygiene donations for Community Kitchen and Helping Hands of Myrtle Beach.

Mann set up Saturday and will be there until Friday November 16.

The donations are expected to last until the spring.

Mann says with the holidays coming, the need is greater than ever.

"We're heading towards Thanksgiving and that's all about eating and the idea that somebody can't eat, it just doesn't gel," said Mann.

Food items needed: cereal, grits, oatmeal, instant potatoes, rice, canned potatoes, sweet potatoes, pork and beans, pinto beans, blackeye peas, dry beans, peas, green beans, corn, tomatoes, carrots, mixed vegetables, beets, spinach, mac and cheese, pasta, sauce, coffee, tea, juice, kool aid, canned milk, hot chocolate, baby food, peanut butter, and jelly.

Hygiene items needed: soap, deodorant, shampoo, razors, feminine products, large diapers, toothpaste, tooth brushes, combs, brushes.
