Highway Patrol says a woman died when she flipped her SUV and was thrown from it.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the woman as Erin Matthews, 20, of Longs. Matthews died at the scene of multiple trauma.
It happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway 31 near Highway 9. Corporal Bob Beres says Matthews was traveling north on Highway 31 in a Chevy Tahoe, when she went off the right side of the road and sideswipped the guard rail. Cpl. Beres said she then overcorrected and went off the left side, stricking a concrete barrier.
The car flipped and she was thrown from the Tahoe. Beres said she was not wearing a seatbelt.
