An inmate, 58 years old, at the Georgetown County Detention Center was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday night, and was taken to Georgetown Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The inmate's cell mate discovered him and notified corrections officers.
The preliminary autopsy report found the inmate suffered from emphysema and cardiovascular disease, according to Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson.
The name of the inmate is being withheld until his family can be notified.
The inmate had been at the detention center since June 17.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was notified and responded to the Georgetown County Detention Center at approximately 12:00 a.m. on November 1, 2012.
