SURFSIDE BEACH -- Surfside Beach Police Chief Mike Frederick is leaving his position with the town on October 28th.

In his letter of resignation sent to NewsChannel 15, Frederick announced he will be taking a position with Santee Cooper, as a Special Agent attached to the South Carolina Public Service Authority, and will be stationed in Myrtle Beach.

Surfside Beach Town Administrator Micki Fellner will appoint an interim Chief of Police before Frederick leaves the force according to Frederick.

Frederick has served as chief for two and a half years.

In his letter he writes, "I feel confident that the team in place within SBPD is fully capable of maintaining our insanely high level of service, and I'll be able to keep an eye on them to ensure that they do since I live in Surfside Beach…"
