With just over a month to go until the November 6 general election, we're talking to the Republican and the Democrat who want to be the first member of Congress to represent South Carolina's new 7th Congressional District. Monday night, we talked with Democrat Gloria Bromell Tinubu. To watch that interview, click here.

Republican Tom Rice moved to Horry County from Charleston when he was four years old, and now he's ready to move into the 7th Congressional District seat.

"I think we're going to win, and I think we're going to win handily," said Rice.

Currently Rice is ahead by 12 percent in a poll released by Winthrop University. Rice says he believes the margin is greater than that.

"Those numbers may not be accurate. I think there is actually a bigger spread than the Winthrop poll indicated. Our polls indicated a significantly larger spread than that," said Rice.

Tom Rice is currently the Horry County Council Chair, but he says his support reaches across all eight counties in District 7.

"We're covering the district and letting people know that we care, putting our message out there and it seems to be received well," said Rice.

Rice commented during the interview that his competitor, Democratic candidate Gloria Bromell Tinubu has a strong following. Rice is calling on his supporters to make sure he wins this election.

"I promise you she's going to do a really good job of getting her people to the polls, and if we don't, we'll lose. So we just got to keep focused and get our people to the polls," said Rice.

Rice said his plan for the last 28 days before the election is to reach every voter he can.

"I don't want to ignore anybody. I'm trying to hit every group, every party, every socio-economic. I want everybody to be included and honestly, I'm going to work for all of them whether they support me or not," said Rice.
