MULLINS -- The presidential race isn't the only important election in Mullins on November 6. The home of the Golden Leaf Festival expects its mayor's race to draw people to the polls.
"I would like to see people get things done around here," said Leona Fullard, a Mullins resident.
Five people are running for mayor: incumbent mayor Pam Lee, Isaac Black, Amber Kopanski, William "Bo" McMillan and mayor pro tem Pat Phillips.
Some candidates say the city needs new direction after internal problems this past year. Last August, Mayor Lee paid the city back $16,000 in overdue water bills for her house and her mother's home.
Some council members say they haven't seen Lee much at all.
In February, at an NAACP forum, Lee said as mayor, she doesn't seem to have much power.
Roger Taylor runs an antique business in downtown Mullins. He hopes all of the candidates have the city's best interest at heart.
"I want to see it grow, yes I do. And it's important that whoever gets elected, whether it's for a council person or if it's for the mayor, that they are 100 percent for Mullins. We need to all pull together on this thing."
A candidate forum takes place Monday, October 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m at the Miles Center in Mullins.
