MYRTLE BEACH -- The two candidates for the newly drawn 7th Congressional District will debate at Myrtle Beach High School on Wednesday, October 17th, and that debate will air live on WPDE NewsChannel 15 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The debate, between Republican Tom Rice and Democrat Gloria Tinubu, is hosted by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Strand Business Alliance.
The event is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis. You do not need to pre-register or have a ticket.
There is a pre-debate program featuring national politicos James Carville and Mary Matalin that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The pre-debate program will not be aired on television.
Carville and Matalin will lead the pre-debate program, offering their insights on the current political climate and upcoming elections.
Carville, often called 'The Ragin' Cajun,' is a well-known political consultant. He is a best-selling author, actor, producer, talk-show host, speaker and restaurateur.
Matalin, a popular conservative voice, is an author, television and radio host, and widely sought after political contributor, pundit and public speaker.
"This is going to be an outstanding opportunity to hear the two candidates for the U.S. 7th Congressional district House seat address issues that are important to the Myrtle Beach area and entire Grand Strand business community. We are excited to offer this free forum to the general public during this critically important election for our area," said Richard Singleton, chairman of the MBACC board of directors.
"Grand Strand and Pee Dee residents are excited about this new congressional district, and we know they're eager to see someone representing their values in office. Being able to hear from each of the candidates and know their positions before the general election in November is critical," said Mike Wooten, President of the Grand Strand Business Alliance.
The debate will preempt The Middle & The Neighbors. They will be recorded and broadcast Sunday, October 21st at 5:00 PM & 5:30 PM.
