Fewer deaths, hundreds of DUI arrests over Labor Day

The Department of Public Safety released numbers Thursday for its Labor Day holiday patrols that ran from Friday at 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Monday.

It says one person died on South Carolina roads, compared to seven over the same period in 2011. 

Highway Patrol made 260 DUI arrests, issued 3,079 safety belt citations, investigated 738 collisions, and helped 1,086 motorists.

State Transport Police, which deal with commercial motor vehicles, inspected 234 vehicles and drivers, placed 21 vehicles out of service and placed 12 drivers out of service.
