Some kids who come from struggling families got the chance to start their school year off right by shopping for school supplies with the Salvation Army Thursday.

Around 30 Grand Strand students got $80 to shop for back to school supplies and clothes.

Target retail stores and the Salvation Army came together for the event and paired each child with a volunteer chaperone to help shop.

"You'll need all this stuff because if you didn't you wouldn't have a lot of stuff that you need for school. You'd just have to use the old stuff," said Ja'Quarius O'Neil, a student shopper.

Target donated $1 million nationwide to go toward the school shopping spree. The Salvation Army split that money up among its 40 divisions across the nation.
