CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) - Conway police are investigating a shooting at Huckabee Heights public housing off Leonard Avenue. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

Lt. Reggie Hill with Conway police says a male victim was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.

At this time police have not released the extent of his injuries.

Witnesses on the scene say the victim was shot in the back and was alert when he was put into the ambulance.

"Once officers arrived on the scene, they did find the victim with apparent gun shot wounds to his lower back," said Conway police spokesperson Catina Hipp. "When speaking with them, he told officers he was shot by two unidentifiable black males."

Police say one of the suspects shot at the victim ten times from across the street.

Horry County police are assisting in the investigation.
