The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3181 in Florence County is hosting a big cookout for veterans across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand.
"Veterans are our life blood . Our whole purpose of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is veterans, our comrades, their widows and their orphans and that's all. So everything we do must be to help them out and so that's what we we're all about. This is a just a fellowship type thing to get them all right and have some fun, " said Bill Hunt, Chaplin VFW 3181.
"A chance for veterans to come, all veterans. You don't have to be a post member. All veterans, their family and friends to come to a cookout in the spirit of fellowship and friendship, something that is a bond that all veterans and their spouses and children have in common," said Lt. Colonel Johnny Guest, Sr. Vice Commander VFW Post 3181.
The cookout will be held on July 4 at 12 p.m. at the VFW Post 3181 community center on Greer Road in Florence.
Post members say there will be plenty of good food, music and fun. They expect more than 500 veterans and their families to come out to the event.
VFW officials say they hope this will be their biggest turnout ever.
