During a certification hearing, the Florence County Election Commission upheld the results from Tuesday's Primary Elections in Florence County.

The seven member commission reviewed nearly two dozen provisional and fail safe ballots.

Two voters came to the hearing to express problems they had when trying to vote at the Delmae precinct.

The voters said they had to vote provisional ballots for the Florence mayoral race after being told they weren't registered in the city, despite having proof they lived in the city. One woman said poll workers seemed confused and were disorganized.

The commissioners confirmed the voters did live in the city limits of Florence and apologized to them. Election officials say they will address additional training for poll workers at the Delmae precinct. It came to light during the hearing that 14 people voted in the wrong precinct.

They were zoned to vote at the Claussen precinct but cast ballots at the Greenwood precinct. Employees with the Florence County Voter Registration Office checked the voting history of the 14 people and found they have voted in previous elections at the Greenwood precinct.

Officials aren't sure why their precinct was changed, but voted to count all 14 of the provisional ballots.

Commissioners say they may meet again next week to possibly recount votes cast in SC Senate District 32. Longtime Incumbent John Yancey McGill came out on top of the vote total against his opponent Cezar McKnight for District 32, but he may not be declared the winner just yet.

Only 82 votes separated McGill and McKnight out of the 12,652 votes cast in the race.

When less than 1% separates the candidates, there is an automatic recount. That would be ordered by the South Carolina Election Commission after the results are certified by each of the counties and sent to the SCEC.
