Hurricane season is still a week away, but Friday night, the second named storm of the year formed off the South Carolina coast.

At 11 p.m., subtropical storm Beryl was about 305 miles from Charleston. It's top winds were 45 miles per hour.

The First Alert Weather Team says Beryl should stay south of us, probably making landfall in southern Georgia or northern Florida. For us, Beryl will bring a higher risk of rip currents and a slight chance of showers and storms Saturday, and it will be a bit windy, especially along the coast.

Through the weekend, you can find updates on Beryl from First Alert Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski on the CarolinaLive.com Tropical Update page.
