Officials with the Florence County Magistrate Office say Shannon Smith, 42, pled guilty to reckless driving in March. They say the charge was lowered from DUI First Offense. Magistrate officials say he was fined $240.
Smith is the Chief of Howe Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
Highway Patrol arrested him last January after it says he blew .08 in a breathalyzer test.
In an unrelated matter, Smith is on administrative leave from the fire department with pay while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates an allegation of funds missing from the department.
District fire board member Earl Liner can't say how much money is missing, but we're told it could be thousands of dollars.
According to the Howe Springs Fire District website it covers approximately 175 square miles in Florence County.
Howe Springs is dispatched to just fewer than 1000 calls a year with more than half being medical related.
