A five-year-old boy died in a wreck in Williamsburg County just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The incident happened on Simms Reach Road at a bridge that crosses the Black River.

Coroner Harrison McKnight says the victim is Isaiah Izzard. Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins says the driver of a Dodge van ran off the left side of the road and hit the bridge. McKnight says Izzard was thrown from the car and died on the scene.

A total of five people were inside the van. McKnight says one person was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina and another victim was taken to the hospital in Kingstree.

The wreck is under investigation by Highway Patrol.
