Eight teachers are breathing a little easier after the Horry County Board of Education voted to let them keep their jobs Monday night.
The board met to vote solely on a RIF (reduction in force) list of 8 teachers. State law requires school districts in South Carolina to give teachers notice their contracts won't be renewed next year by April 15th.
They were in danger of being laid off because of shrinking enrollment.
The board approved a vote to keep the teachers. Instead, they'll stay on as fill in substitutes.
Last year, the board approved a similar move when four teachers and a nurse were placed on an RIF list.
