Timmonsville man hit by van on interstate dies

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) - Saturday night a man was hit by a van along Interstate 95 at mile marker 175 in the northbound lane in Florence County.

Sgt. Brian McDougald says the victim, who worked for a wrecker service, was in the roadway helping a disabled motorist when he was hit.

Florence County Deputy Coroner Don Reynolds says the victim is James Coffey, 24, of Timmonsville.

The driver of the van was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation and highway patrol will release more information after reconstruction of the scene is complete.
