VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The commander of U.S. Fleet Forces calls it an "amazing miracle" that no one was killed when a Navy fighter jet slammed into an apartment complex yesterday in Virginia Beach, Va.
The two pilots and five people on the ground were hurt, but all are now out of the hospital. Some 40 apartments were damaged or destroyed in the fiery crash. Fire officials say all the residents have been accounted for.
The fighter jet was being piloted by a student and his trainer Friday when the plane malfunctioned over Virginia's most populated city. The men ejected moments before the jet crashed into the apartment complex.
