Surfside Beach voters went to the polls Tuesday to elect a mayor.

Turnout was steady at the civic center while we were there.

Incumbent Mayor Allen Deaton is being challenged by town councilman Doug Samples.

Voters we talked with say even with just one race on the ballot, it's important to show up.

"All concerned citizens should, and every vote counts," said Edward Hunt, a Surfside resident.

The polls close at 7:00 p.m.

We'll post the results as soon as we get them.
