UPDATE
Horry County police charged Douglas Kaparie Pratt, 33, of Longs with Failure to Stop for Blue Light, Criminal Domestic Violence and Reckless Driving. They couldn't charge him until he was released from the hospital.
Police say Pratt led them on a high speed chase through Socastee on April 1, and crashed into a power pole.
Police were called to the Wilco Hess Gas Station at 6222 Highway 707 around 2:30 a.m. for a reported assault. A woman, who'd locked herself in the bathroom, told officers she was trying to get away from the man who'd been drinking and hit her several times after she refused to let him drive her Ford Mustang from a party.
The report said the man drove off in the Mustang when police arrived and refused to pull over, leading police on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. Police said that's when he wrecked and hit a power pole just past the post office on the west side of Highway 707.
The Mustang flipped over and the man was seriously hurt, the police report said.
The woman was treated for large cuts on her face at Waccamaw Community Hospital, according to the report.
