HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Developers who hope to create as many as 4,000 jobs through an entertainment and resort complex off Hilton Head Island plan to meet with Gov. Nikki Haley to discuss the project.

They need her approval because the resort will include a casino.

Joe Brinn is the managing partner for Hilton Head Lakes and said he hopes the governor will approve the idea after she sees the plans. The idea is for an upscale resort similar to the Greenbrier in West Virginia or the Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas.

The governor's approval is needed under federal law because the casino will be operated in conjunction with Cherokee Indians.

Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey says the governor wants jobs, but he says there is a better way than a casino.
