Firefighters from across the country are on the Grand Strand training for the Scott World Firefighter Combat challenge.

Saturday was day two of a three-day training camp for other teams from places like Massachusetts, Alabama and Pennsylvania.

The combat challenge tests firefighter skills and physical fitness. Wearing full gear and air packs, firefighters race through a simulation that has been called by ESPN the toughest two minutes in sports.

"You're running up a tower, you're carrying hoses, you're pulling rope to get equipment back up to the top. You're running down off the tower, you're striking a beam simulating like you're on a roof to open up a roof," Micheal Medeiros, the captain for Team Horry said.

Scott McClelland traveled from Richmond, Virgina this weekend. "I've been involved in all these other sports. It by far blows it out of the water," he said.

Last year, Horry County Fire Rescue's "Team Horry Reebok" placed fourth in the 64 team elimination tournament.

Another Horry County Fire and Rescue team placed in the top 20.

The Grand Strand female firefighters placed 5th in their division. Both Horry County and Myrtle Beach firefighters make up that team.

Horry County Fire Rescue and the Myrtle Beach Fire Department each put up $25,000 in accommodations tax money to bring the challenge to Myrtle Beach.
