Billy Graham's grandson, Tullian Graham Tchividjian, is in Myrtle Beach and will be one of many guest speakers at the 'Unfashionable Conference' this weekend.
On Thursday morning, Tullian met with dozens of people during a weekly Bible study hosted by Market Life Ministries at Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach.
Tullian is the Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He flew to Myrtle Beach Wednesday and said he plans to talk about the necessity of the Gospel for Christian people.
"I think a lot of times, when people inside the church hear the word Gospel, they think that's what people outside the church need because that's where the biggest problems in our world exist, outside the church. I'm here to remind them that the biggest problems exist inside the church, in our own hearts," he said.
When asked about his grandfather's legacy and if he ever feels as though he has big shoes to fill, Tullian said, "I'm honored and privileged to have grown up in the family I grew up in. I didn't choose it, I didn't deserve it, I didn't earn it. God's call on my life is so clear to me that I've never really thought about it in terms of following in my Granddads footsteps, or big shoes to fill, or things like that."
Tullian pointed out that he and his grandfather, Billy Graham, are very different. "He travels the world and preaches in stadiums and I'm a pastor of a local church," he said.
Tullian said his mission in life is to meet different people who, in a sense, have been broken by the church. "And remind them that God's good news, that Jesus has come to do for us that we could never do for ourselves is just as relevant for us now, even after we become Christians, as it was before."
