CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) - With the Spring Harley Rally right around the corner, Horry County's Public Safety Committee held a special meeting concerning bike week rules. Those who plan on applying for a special event permit had to attend Thursday's meeting. The application process begins Friday.

The rules are essentially the same as in years past, except the county is no longer allowing burnouts. A special event permit applies to outdoor activities and is good for seven days.

Biker groups, businesses, and law enforcement all took part in the meeting. Steve Clark with Horry County ABATE was pleased with the meeting. He says the county sounded pro-business and pro-bike. He and other members were there to look out for the interest of riders and businesses. "Local mom and pop businesses make 90 percent of their money during bike week. A lot of the smaller hotels, smaller restaurants, smaller bars it's predominantly where they make most of their revenue for the year."

At the close of the meeting, Councilman Al Allen told the group they were not there to harass anybody. He just asked that everyone "act reasonable."

The special events permits will be issued for May 14 - 20.

Changing vendor permits from seven days to three is up for discussion at Horry County Council's meeting on Feb. 28.
