Florence School District One Board of Trustees may soon pray silently at its meetings.

lawsuit recently settled against the Chesterfield County School District over a Christian pep rally last year concerned the board enough for them to consider a change.

Board members met Tuesday night to talk about a possible change.

Normally, they pray aloud before their meetings.

Now, they're looking at a moment of silence instead.

Board member, Pat Gibson Hye-Moore, says they'd rather acknowledge their Christian beliefs, but agree silent prayers could be key to avoiding a potential lawsuit.

"That way everyone can pray to whatever God they serve. Whomever it may be, Jehovah, Budha. I still don't like it, but I accept it because if we do, if they ask us to do a non-secular prayer when it's my turn that's not gonna happen, I'm going to pray to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," explained Moore.

Board members will meet Thursday night to tackle this issue again. It's expected they will vote on the matter.
