Horry County Fire Rescue and the South Carolina Forestry Commission responded to a few brush fires Tuesday afternoon.
The Forestry Commission has three units at a fire on Highway 430 at North Nichols Highway. That fire is estimated to be 12 to 15 acres. No homes are threatened.
A fire on Page Road in Aynor at Gerald Farm Road burned three acres, according to Battalion Chief Brian VanArnem. VanArnem says eleven structures and four horses were threatened in the fire, but the only thing that got burned was a boat.
Horry County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Thompson says there were three fires in that area.
Both Horry County Fire Rescue and the Forestry Commission ask you to be careful if burning outdoors.
The Forestry Commission offers this advice because of the weather and fuel conditions:
· Burns should be postponed, if at all possible
· Regular precautions should be increased (have more manpower, tools and water on hand than you usually do)
· Wider than usual firebreaks should be established around debris burn piles. We are encouraging personnel engaging in prescribed fire operations to establish wider than usual fire breaks too.
· The Commission has slowed its Rx fire operations in the Pee Dee due to these conditions. Fewer than 10% of the burns on our backlog have been conducted in our Pee Dee operating region.
