Florence fire department responds to back to back fires

The Florence Fire Department was dispatched to two fires within eight minutes of each other Sunday.

At 9:19 a.m., firefighters responded to the 800 Block of N. Dargan St. There was heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area in about thirty minutes.

Approximately eight minutes later at 9:27 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire in the 1000 block of W. Palmetto St. The fire was under control in about fifteen minutes. It damaged a closet and hallway.

No one was hurt in either fire. Residents are being assisted by the Pee Dee Area Chapter of the Red Cross.

No causes have yet been determined for either fire.

The Florence Fire Department would like to remind all residents to please be fire safe this Holiday Season. Make sure you have working smoking alarms in your home.
