The Grand Strand's first ever competitive video game tournament attracted a crowd of area video game fans Saturday.
More than 50 people participated in the event held by Myrtle Beach based East Coast Xtreme Gaming. Competitors played to win $1,000 by winning rounds of the popular video game Call of Duty.
"Don't think that you're not good enough to try it. You never know how good you are until you get here. and you play against other people, but the main thing is, come out and have some fun," said Brent Densford, president of East Coast Xtreme Gaming.
Last month the video game industry saw $1.67 billion in game sale profits.
Prior to Saturday's tournament, gamers would have to travel to Raleigh or Orlando for an event like this.
