MYRTLE BEACH -- The Myrtle Beach Fire Department demonstrated the correct way to fry a turkey Wednesday.

Lt. Christian Sliker says make sure you know how much oil you need to put in the fryer, so it doesn't boil over.

Sliker says once the turkey is in the fryer, stay 10 feet away and always keep a fire extinguisher close.

Never put a frozen turkey in hot oil because it will explode.

The breast of the bird should always be 180 degrees, or it's not ready to eat. The turkey should sit for awhile to let it continue to cook inside and let the rest of the oil drain.
