A local group that helps needy families says they are low on donations and Thanksgiving is just days away.

Gwen Woody with Coastal Rescue Mission in Horry County says their goal is to give out a 35 pound box of food on the holiday. So far they've only received about 20 chickens but there's nearly 400 families that need their help.

The group's freezers are bare and the stock of canned goods are low. Woody says this year she's seen double the amount of clients because of the economy and less people are donating, "Everybody is in a shaky place right now and I don't like to talk about doom but everyone needs to band together closer and help one another in this giving time."

Coastal Rescue Mission is located at the X Sports Complex on George Bishop Parkway. For more information on how you can donate call 843-448-1352.
