MYRTLE BEACH -- The 11th annual 'PEZ in the Sun Gathering' is underway in Myrtle Beach, where hundreds of PEZ collectors are showing off their prized dispensers.
Some have been collecting for decades, others just a few years. "We started this about three or four years ago. My daughter had sent my wife some of these PEZ and she likes animals and it just progressed from there. Every place we go we try to pick up a few here and there," John Fellows of Loris said.
Fellows' collection was laid out in his room at the Springmaid Beach Resort where the convention is held. Collectors buy, sell and trade the candy collectibles that come in all kinds of characters.
"It's a great hobby because no matter where you go you're going to find these and they're not expensive. So, you can just go and go and go and not spend a lot of money," Fellows added.
On the other hand, there are some dispensers that are hard to come by and those can be worth thousands of dollars.
"The favorite ones that we like, are the ones that are rare and hard to get and the ones that are discontinued and you find them here and there. That's where the fun is at too," Fellows said.
The public is invited to check out the displays at the hotel between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Thursday, Oct. 27th through Saturday, Oct. 29th.
