(AP) -- Authorities say a Pickens County woman killed her two sons, her ex-husband and her stepmother, then tried to make it look like one of her sons was the gunman.

Prosecutors say 48-year-old Susan Hendricks had life insurance policies on all four people she killed in neighboring homes Oct. 14.

Investigators said Hendricks was in one of the homes the night the shootings happened. She told deputies her youngest son had been using drugs and was suicidal. Officers found a gun by his body, and Hendricks said he left her a note on the kitchen table.

This isn't the first time someone has been shot and killed in Hendricks' home. But in that case in April 2006 investigators ruled she acted in self-defense.
